Noda ‘agrees’ to meet with Ant-Nuclear group leader

ImageSources close to the prime minister said he is “positive” about taking part in a meeting with a group representative. The move is seen as a response to suggestions from within the government and the ruling Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) that he could be seen as ignoring the voices of people opposed to restarting suspended nuclear power plants in Japan. Protests against reactivation of the reactors have been rapidly expanding.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura told a news conference on Aug. 1 that when Noda had a telephone conversation with former Prime Minister Naoto Kan on July 30, Noda discussed the protests, saying, “I want to hear the opinions of the public, no matter which side they are on.”

Putting aside the condescending demeanor he responds with regarding the motives of his (feeble) attempts to address this situation, how out of touch with reality can one person be–or rather portray himself to be–without being completely void of human decency? Especially when daily news outlets are filled with headlines such as 70% of Japanese Citizens who wanted to attend government-sponsored hearings are anti-nuclear. Or Fukushima residents calling for elimination of nuclear plants.  And Fukushima residents press for criminal complaint against TEPCO is accepted by Prosecutors. Notwithstanding those Citizens (in excess of 100,000) protesting outside the man’s office and residence multiple times every week.
